First Word

Guess I'm not sure what technically qualifies as his first word, but Dex said 'Dada' this weekend, and Dan caught it on film.  He's said it for a little while now, but this was the first time he said it back to Dan.  Followed closely by 'cat.'

Also this weekend, Dex went to see his Great Grandma and Great Grandpa Bezek, demonstrated his skills at eating cereal puffs and cantelope, played by the stairs, and was a well behaved kiddo while we went out to lunch. Oh and he napped on Dad's lap for the first time in months.  I can't tell who enjoyed it more. ;)

 

  

 

Dex loves the play 'tunnel' where Dan talks to him through the cereal box.  I was lucky enough to get photos from both angles :)

  

 He was back to being his happy self this weekend.  Sleeping was a bit hit or miss, but nothing major.  And for those of you keeping track, he's now in 18month clothes for onesies and sleepysuits, and 12 month for seperates.  He's really tall!

Oh, and it won't be long now before he adds more words to his vocabulary.  He stands at the front window and babbles to everything he sees outside!  We're keeping track of what he says.  So far we've got Ow, Tom, Fudge, Teeth, Good, and Cheese.  And he's getting *really* close to waving back when you wave at him.  Right now he just kind of flaps his arm..or smacks the table or high chair tray with his hand.  I give him another week.

Silly Munch

Dex was up at 5:45am on Wednesday, and was ready to start his day!  I prepped Nicci that he could be a handful, but he did pretty well, with only a couple of grump-fests during the day.

In the evening, Dan met me out at a work event, so Grandma Linda watched him for a bit.

Toes are good for teething

*Sigh*....

At 4:45am this morning, Dex's top tooth officially began to make him angry.  He was upset for a good 40 minutes before I got him to go back to sleep.  A combo of baby Tylenol, a bottle, singing, and back rubbing did the trick.  Or maybe he just screeched himself back to sleep.  Either way, I was up for the day!

 

 

He had a short fuse all day, and had 3 one-hour naps instead of his usual 2 ( one 2 hour and one 1 hour).  The 3 naps also were only made possible by car rides.  He was livid with the idea of being in his crib!  So it was a long day for sure.  He also fought Dan for a good 30 minutes at bedtime before finally conking out.

At this point I know there's no reason to change routines extensively; we'll just deal with it as best we can, and keep him as comfy (and distracted) as possible.  He had a pretty decent bump in his top gum this evening, so I hope that this one is through within a week or so.

I didn't get a good photo, but we got some sweet potato puffs (Target brand) and he's awesome at picking them up and eating them.  They look like alphabet shapes and are Cheerio sized, but are made from sweet potatoes, and barely taste like anything, and turn to mush after a couple of seconds in his mouth.  We'll have to get a video this week, because he actually laughs when he gobbles them up.  A nice distraction from the fussy fits today. :)

4 Days of Dex

Friday was a busy day for Dan and I, between appointments and housework.  Grandma Linda watched him for the afternoon, but we wound up with no photos on our camera.  Don't worry, we made up for it the rest of the weekend!

Stopped at a garage sale with Dex on Saturday, and found this neat gizmo.  It makes TONS of noise, as there's no where on it for him to lean, where it won't make a noise. Blinky likes it too; when it's turned off.

 

I also was dying to try this outfit on him; I'd bought it last summer, and in size 9 months.  It's just about too small, but I got some pictures at least.

 

We also put his Pumas on him to see how he'd do during his usual pullups and cruising activities, and he was pretty grumped out by them.  It could be because they're also TOO SMALL.  Yep, all of his size 2 shoes are officially now too small.  I'm going to hold off on buying him any more before he tries some on.  Eeeep!

 

Sunday morning, we were getting breakfast ready and flipped the tv on while Dex was in his round about.  He froze when he heard Elmo on Sesame Street and actually watched for a few minutes.  Long enough for me to even take a picture!  Pretty crazy, especially because he's never watched tv with us before.

Sunday was also Ryan and Amanda's Memorial Day party.  Everyone was given a tshirt to wear, in celebration of Ryan's birthday.  Dan and Dex were very happy to match.  Grandma Linda and Grandpa Matt also came, and as there were a bunch of other little kids who brought toys, they helped Dex to play with one of them.

 

Baxter was also there, and he (just like Dex) has grown up over the last 5 months.  Here's how they looked on 12/23/08, and then Sunday 5/24/09.  Notice a difference?

 

I think Baxter was happy to see him :)

Sunday, Dan and Grandpa Matt finished re-staining the deck, while Dex and I played inside.  It was a bit brisk in the morning, so Dex got suited up when he went out for a bit with Dan.

 

At the end of the day, we went for a walk, and someone fell alseep under their sun hat.

 

His top tooth isn't far away from coming in...he keeps making funny faces with his tongue, and sticking his finger in his mouth.  Fingers crossed that it doesn't mess with his happy mood!

 

Catch Up

 I'm posting this Friday morning as I took the day off :)  GUESS WHAT?  Dex slept through the whole night without a feeding!!!!

There were a couple of random peeps through the night, and I woke up at 4am worrying...but he did awesome.

We haven't tried much different...just getting him to nap in his crib during the day if at all possible.  And he's just sleeping in a onesie now that it's not so cold out.  And he's really toned down his eating these days..food isn't nearly as exciting to him as it once was!  Maybe it's a combination of those things, maybe it's none of them.  :)

It could be that he hung out with Nicci and Brian's pugs yesterday; Ozwald and Odis.

 

 

Everyone had a fine time together!

Wednesday night, Uncle Murty, Uncle Todd, and Uncle Don all came over for a BBQ.  While I didn't get any pictures of all of them, Uncle Murty got a good one of Dex on his cameraphone.

 

He continues to be so happy and chatty, that if this keeps up another couple of days, I'm going to really have a hard time going through another fussy phase!  He does have a lump on his top gum, but so far he isn't showing that it's bothering him.

Corral

Forget the baby gates, Dex needs something pretty heavy to stop him!  This is the set up we've rigged up for now.  Luckily, he's forgotten about the stairs...for now.

We had an excellent day today.  So great in fact, that I had no time for pictures!  But trust me, he was very happy, laughy, and flashing his big 2-toothed smile all over.  He is drooling non-stop again, so it's only a matter of time until teething mode hits again...but until then....!

Good Morning

I remember back when Dex was a couple of months old, I could put him under the mobile while I grabbed a shower in the morning.

Then it switched to putting him in the exersaucer while I ate breakfast, and showering while he napped.

After awhile, he wanted to move, so he went in the round-about and that was our morning routine for month 7.

Now after he woke up this morning and I got him changed and dressed, I plopped him in the pack n play for a minute while I baby-proofed the living room for the day.  Look what greeted me 30 seconds later. :)

Captain Pullup

What a weekend!

Grandma Linda was home with Dex on Friday, and when I got home from work, he was fussy for a bit, but then was happy to play with me and show me how much he loves the stairs.  We did take a trip to Wegmans for some groceries, where he sang for everyone pretty loud.

Sunday he and I had a playdate with Kristen and Sarah, and he also tried chomping on a frozen bagel.  Afterwards, we stopped by a garage sale and found a new toy for $1.

 

After a quick nap, we had more playtime, followed by an outing to a Vietnamese restaurant with Amanda.  He slept through our entire lunch, which was great.  We then went to Eastview, and he hung out with Grandma Linda while we went to the mall for a bit.

A couple of hours later, we met up with Dan back at her house, and watched him demonstrate his new love of staring out windows, and making sucking faces on them.

We went out to dinner, and he wanted to move around, instead of sit still.  Not surprising. :)

Sunday we went out looking for garage sales while Dex napped in the car.  We also went out to lunch, and then stopped at Target to get a baby gate, and another footrest for the living room.  We're going to use the two together as a barracade to separate the living room from the kitchen.

I hadn't seen Dex in a shopping cart yet, and it was so great to see how much he loved it.

 

 

He also pulled himself up on the couch, footrest, and anything (or anyone) that would hold his weight.  I think he did it about 200 times on Sunday alone!  Now he just has to figure how to sit down once he gets tired of standing.  He also tried out the walker that Grandma Linda brought him.  It's neat as it 'vaccuums' up small toys as you push it around.

He's still been waking up 1 or 2 times per night, but his overall demeanor has been GREAT this week, compared to the couple prior.  While we're still exhausted at the end of each day, it makes things a million times more fun.  His 2nd tooth is now very visible, but he was drooling up a storm today, so I'm guessing the top ones aren't far behind.  Let's hope they come in fast, and/or don't hurt him as much!!!

Caught Up

A combination of work and volunteer activities got me out of the house before Dex woke up, and after he went to bed on both Wednesday and Thursday.  He had pretty good days for both of them, and his sleeping has also improved. 

Wednesday night he just woke up once!

 

Dan works today so Grandma Linda is again babysitting, and he's working Saturday too so the little man and I can catch up on our time together. :)

Finally

It's been a long time since Dex and I had a 'happy' day, just the two of us.  Seemed like the last few weeks revolved around teething, or frustration about crawling, or the need to poop, or something else that was leaving him fussy.  Couple that with me being short on sleep and having lots of work to do, and it had been awhile since we had a Tuesday that clicked.  So I am so happy we had one of those good days today.

 

I had a brainstorm last night that maybe I should try using the next size up nipple for his bottle.  He was still on the smallest size they made, and he often conked out before he finished his bottle in the middle of the night.  He used to gag when we tried the increased flow before, and we only used it when we put cereal in and it was thicker.  I figured maybe if he was big enough now to handle it, he could suck down more in the same amount of time, and stay fuller longer.

He went to bed at 8pm, fussed at 11pm, then was up at 2am and 5:4am to eat.  He then slept until 8:30am.  Nevermind that at the 2am I didn't have the bottle sealed right and I dumped a third of it all over his bedding.  Ugh.

This morning he was super happy and smiley, and learned a bunch of new sounds.  He's saying something that sounds like dadadadada and is working on his gsssh sound.  So overnight he's started gibberish and babbling, as opposed to just ooohs.  I'm sure the 2nd tooth helped.

This isn't the first time his 'brain grew' overnight, but it's always incredible when you realize it's one of those days.  I'm glad I got to spend it with him. :D
